Al Reem Island is towers. • Safest for a group: Chicken Garlic Mayo Roll at AED 12.80. Mild, creamy, no chilli heat to speak of. Nobody has ever disliked it.

Two rolls make a proper meal for most adults. One roll plus fries costs roughly the same at AED 19.20 and feels more like a meal than a snack. If you are ordering for two people on a weeknight, four rolls comes to under AED 50 with the discount.

What Separates a Good Paratha Roll From a Bad One

Paratha rolls are cheap enough that most places do not think very hard about them, which is exactly why the good ones stand out. Three things decide it.

The paratha itself has to be laminated and cooked on a griddle so it comes out flaky with crisp spots, not soft and bready like a wrap. A roll made with a plain flatbread is a completely different and much worse object — it goes limp within minutes and it tastes of nothing.

The chutney has to be sharp. Green chutney made with fresh coriander, mint, green chilli and lemon is what lifts a roll above a pile of meat in bread. Kitchens that use a sweet, thick, jarred version are hiding the fact that the filling is bland.

And the filling has to be grilled, not boiled or pre-cooked and reheated. You should be able to taste char on the meat inside a roll. If you cannot, the roll is doing all the work.
